Singapore Sports School, November 2, 2008, Singapore – Singapore's Tao Li won another medal on Day 2 of the FINA Swimming World Cup. Tao Li came through a very competitive field to earn a well placed bronze medal in the 50 metre butterfly, with a time of 25.93 seconds. "I am better at longer distances and the girls went out very fast today and it was harder for me to catch up over 25 metres. However, I am very pleased with my result today as I swam among a very strong field and to finish third is a great achievement especially with a world record holder in the midst," said Tao Li. She will be heading to Moscow for the next leg of the world cup from November 8th to 9th.

Olympic gold medalist Oussama Mellouli continued his fine form this evening, matching his medal tally last night of two golds and one silver. Oussama opened the evening with the event that he won the Olympic gold for, the 1500 metre freestyle. Oussama swam a measured race staying in touch with initial leader Matt Woodrow of New Zealand for most of the race before storming to victory at the end with a time of 15 minutes 06.05 seconds.

Oussama also took gold in the 200 metre freestyle which he led from start to finish in a dominant fashion finishing in a time of 1 minute 44.47 seconds. In one of the closest finishes of the day, Oussama came second in the 200 metre individual medley, missing the gold by 2/100th of a second. Oussama finished behind Brazilian Thiago Pereira in a time of 1 minute 53.78 seconds. Thiago won gold with a time of 1 minute 53.76 seconds.

When asked about what he thought about his performance, Oussama said, "I really surprised myself in the last couple of days, which I am very happy about, especially in the individual medleys as they are not my main events. It feels great to be jumping in the water and getting best times, three seconds off my personal best, which always make you feel good."

Last year's Swimming World Cup winner Randall Bal was also in action this evening winning the 50 metre backstroke. Randall defeated the current short course world record holder Robert Hurley from Australia in a time of 23.35 seconds. Randall's compatriot Tara Kirk also won in the 50 metre breaststroke with a time of 30.78 seconds.
