Indian Association, November 1, 2009 – National Football Academy U-14 coach V Sivalingam passed away suddenly this evening after collapsing during a charity match at the Indian Association field.
It was a benefit match for former footballer S Anthonysamy and was arranged by close friends of Anthonysamy including Sivalingam.
He was playing for about 30 minutes when he was taken ill.
A doctor who was present at the ground attended to him immediately and he was sent by ambulance to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he passed away.
Said FAS President Zainudin Nordin, "We are all devastated by the news. Our condolences and thoughts are with Sivalingam's family at this very difficult time and we will render all the necessary assistance in their time of need."
Sivalingam leaves behind his wife Philomena Makii and children Gerard Ganesh, Magdalene and Joseph Raj.
He was 51 and was the head coach of the football team preparing for next year's Youth Olympic Games.
