National Stadium, Sunday, May 2, 2016 — Marcus Ong, 29, was the King of 2.4 at the ActiveSG RED RUN 2.4.

The fastest three runners came in under 8 minutes.

The project manager in the animation industry finished the 2.4km run in a time of 7 minutes 22.35 seconds.

Marcus said he missed out on a chance to qualify for the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in the 5km when he tore his hip flexor at the Singapore Open Track and Field Championships in March 2015.

“I am 70 percent tired. I haven’t give all out,” said Marcus after his 2.4km run. “My 2.4 PB is 6:54. I picked up running only in poly.”

Andreas Toh, 24, had the second fastest time of the day with a 7:35.36.

“I slept three hours last night as I had to study for an exam in the morning,” said Andreas, whose 2.4km personal best time in 7:30. This was Andreas’ second time on the track as he also took part in the Singapore Open as part of the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) track team. He ran the 3km steeplechase in a time of 10:31.

UniSIM student Goh Chang Teck, 23, set the third fastest time of 7:55.09.

“Since 18, I have been running road runs. I picked it up after friends dared me to run a marathon,” said Chang Teck whose previous 2.4km PB was 8:30. “I suffered but completed Sundown Marathon 2011 in six hours. I didn’t really train. I have done 14 marathons since then. I like the thrill of testing my own limits, the thrill of crossing the finish line.”

“It feels surreal, looking around, imagining all the fans,” said Chang Teck about running at the National Stadium.

Lin Jian Feng, 20, was part of a 17-strong Singapore Polytechnic group of runners at the event. Jian Feng ran his 2.4km in 8:03.61.

“My coach asked us to sign up,” said Jian Feng, who said his 2.4km PB is 7:57, and runs the 10km in 37 minutes. “This is my first time running at the National Stadium. The track feels nice!”
