Tampines, Sunday, November 27, 2011 — Tampines Rovers FC thrashed Balestier Khalsa FC 5-0 to win the 2011 S.League at the expense of Home United FC who had led the league for most of the season.

Home United were on course for the title until Tampines Rovers beat them 1-0 on November 23rd. That win pushed Tampines Rovers to the top of the table, one point ahead of Home United with one game to go. Tampines only needed to beat Balestier to win their first league title since 2005, which they did in some style.

Tampines Rovers won back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005. Their current coach, ex-Lions super-sub Steven Tan, was a player in those two championship-winning sides.

National striker Aleksandar Duric, 41, scored 26 goals for Tampines this season and he has now won the S.League title with three different clubs — Geylang United FC, SAF FC and Tampines Rovers. He has won a total of six S.League titles.

Tampines Rovers themselves will understand how Home United are feeling about missing out just at the end. They finished just one point behind Etoile FC in the race for the title in 2010.

Home United have the consolation of winning the Singapore Cup. They beat Albirex Niigata (Singapore) 1-0 in extra-time last weekend.
