A football tournament starting the week on March 8, 2008 will give the winning Under-16 boys team a shot at representing Singapore at a global championship in Vienna, Austria. Austria is one of the host countries for Euro 2008 along with Switzerland.

The nine-day adidas +challenge tournament (March 8-16, 2008) will be played at Tampines SAFRA and there are a host of categories: Under-12s, Under-16s, NSMen Open, Corporate Open and Women Open.

Said 15-year-old Ryan Boey of Catholic High, “The prize of going to Vienna is very good, very attractive. I’ve been playing football since Primary school and some of my friends are very good. I’ll definitely check out the details.”

The adidas +challenge will be held to coincide with the one-week school holiday period in March 2008.

Unlike past year’s +challenge event, this year’s edition will see categories for NSMen, Corporates and Women. Said Yeo Wee Han, Sports Marketing Manager for adidas Singapore: “We’ve opened up more categories to cater to demand. More young girls and ladies are playing football and last year some of them signed up to play against the boys. And some won!”

National players like Lionel Lewis, Isa Halim and Shi Jiayi will be down to cheer on the teams on the weekend of the 5-vs-5 tournament which will see limited spaces. Winners of the respective categories will stand to win $4,000 worth of adidas football boots and other products.
