NUS University Town, Tuesday, September 9, 2014 — Defending champions Nanyang Technological University (NTU) defeated Singapore Management University (SMU) 71–35 to record their second straight victory in the Singapore University Games (SUniG) Basketball Championship.

With the victory, NTU hold a 2–0 win-loss record, while SMU lost both their games.

Lim Jia Min (#18) led NTU with 15 points, while Chua Cunfang (#3) and Jolie Ng (#9) added 13 and 12 points respectively. Jolie had an excellent showing on both ends as she facilitated NTU’s offence and recorded several steals.

NTU utilised good offensive and defensive executions to establish a commanding 42–14 lead at the end of the first half.

In the second half, NTU coach Han Li Jun opted to rest his starters and fielded his bench players on a rotational basis. In the absence of NTU’s key players, SMU were able to execute their offence more easily and effectively. However, they were unable to reduce the huge deficit as a more organised NTU bench took home a 71–35 victory.

NTU captain, Tsang Wei Yi (#6), said, “It definitely feels good after two victories, but we don’t want to be too confident, because NUS put up a good fight today in the earlier game against SIM. We’re still looking to train hard and play our best against NUS.”

“Throughout the holidays, we didn’t have many chances for everybody to come together to train. But we’re still working hard and we still have experienced players who can direct and support the team. So we’ll just do our best and see how we can do against NUS,” added Wei Yi.

NTU will next play National University of Singapore on Tuesday, September 16. The game will be held at NUS University Town at 8.30 p.m. SMU will face Singapore Institute of Management on the same day at 7 p.m.
