“The win is a great victory for Singapore,” said Mr Teo Ser Luck, parliamentary secretary of the MCYS. “The boys performed exceptionally well and played above themselves. They have shown that with great determination and desire, they can achieve what they aim for. I am proud of the way they have performed and I want them to know that they have a nation behind them.”

They were also touched by the banners displayed in tribute of the late former coach David Sivalingam.

“We lost a good coach but the boys do remember his values of respect and excellence,” said Mr Nordin. “David has instilled good values in them.”

“It was very touching gesture,” said Dr Balakrishnan. “It was a good memorial for Siva as we owed him a bit (in developing the YOG team). We dedicate this victory to him.”

Singapore will next play Montenegro on Thursday, August 19th, at the same venue at 8.45pm.
