Laos, Sunday, December 6, 2009 – The Philippines water polo team were considered to be Singapore’s biggest threat in their bid to maintain their gold medal-winning streak in the South East Asian (SEA) Games, but they were soundly beaten 8-1 by the defending champions today.

Alvin Lee and Kenneth Wee each scored a brace, while Eugene Teo, Lin Diyan, Yip Ren Kai and team captain Luo Nan all chipped in with one each.

Team Singapore will need only a draw against Thailand, which has lost both its matches so far, to clinch their 23rd consecutive gold medal at the biennial Games. The match will be played tomorrow, Monday, December 7.
