Gombak United held the top spot on the S.League table for 72 hours when a brace by Gabriel Obatola gave them a comfortable 3-0 win over Sengkang Punggol on Monday. With his two goals, he took season’s tally to ten, overtaking Aleksandar Duric as the leading scorer this season.

But the Singapore Armed Forces FC snatched top spot back with a 3-1 victory over Balestier Khalsa. Mustaqim Manzur impressed with his darting runs along both flanks. He also scored a brilliant solo goal, dancing into the penalty area with a series of step-overs, before sending an unstoppable shot into the back of the net.

Both SAFFC and Gombak United are level on 27 points, but the defending champions have a goal difference of 21 while their closet rivals only have 15.

The Young Lions played two matches this week, but unfortunately, both were defeats. First, the Super Reds displayed breath-taking attacking football with a 5-0 thrashing of the Singapore U-23 side at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Tuesday. Choi Dong Soo scored a brace while Park Kang Jin, Park Han Seok, Kim Tae Young all got on the score sheet with one goal a piece to give the Korean side the victory.

Then, Brunei DPMM edged out the Young Lions 1-0 at the Bandar Seri Begawan to keep within striking distance of the leaders with 25 points. An own goal by defender Shahir Hamzah sealed victory for the host.

The Super Reds are sixth with 15 points from 11 games while the Young Lions are a distant fourth from bottom with a mere 11 points from 14 games.

Home United and Tampines Rovers battled out to a 1-1 draw at the Clementi Stadium while Albirex beat Geylang United 2-0.
