Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, April 29, 2009 – Home United Basketball Club (HUBC) defeated Siglap Basketball Club 57-50 in an exciting and hard-fought National Basketball League Division 1 match.

Siglap played good, solid defense to deny Home United execution of their plays and threatened to come from behind many times throughout the game. They kept Home United on their toes right till the last minute.

It was clear from the first quarter that this was not going to be an easy match for Home United. Siglap played good man-to-man defense and Home United could not execute their plays well. Siglap took a one-point lead with three minutes remaining in the quarter but turnovers caused them to end the quarter trailing three points at 13-16.

In the second quarter, Home United went on an 11-5 run to extend their lead to nine points due to good rebounding and many second chance shots. It looked as if Home United would start to break away and extend their lead but Siglap came right back, hitting crucial baskets to keep the game tight at 27-23 with half of the game played.

Siglap opened the third quarter with a big 3-point shot to cut Home United's lead to just one point and it seemed Siglap would regain the lead that they lost in the first quarter. However, Home United went on a 12-4 run to put themselves 11 points ahead of Siglap. Siglap could not find an answer to Home United's offense and were outscored 20-7 in this quarter.

Just when it appeared Home United would take another win comfortable heading into the fourth with a 17-point lead, Siglap had other plans. They made three consecutive 3-pointers and went on a 10-2 run to cut Home United's lead to only 9 points with two minutes remaining in the game.

The crucial point of the match was Siglap making a huge turnover with 50 seconds left to play which cost them a chance of coming back. They were down seven points to Home United and could have made it a five-point and two-possession game had they not turned over the ball.

Siglap put up a good fight to show that Home United is not so invulnerable and the defending champions have something to worry about. Home United will play Eng Tat Basketball Club this Saturday at 8:30pm.
