5th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships

OCBC Aquatic Centre, Sunday, August 30, 2015 — On the final day of the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships, Singapore’s junior swimmers delivered commendable performances in both 4×100 metres medley relay events.

Consisting of Francis Fong, Samuel Khoo, Dylan Koo and Darren Lim, the men’s team clocked 3 minutes and 47.36 seconds to place ninth in a 26-team field, but later received a qualification for the final after Poland was ruled out due to a late registration. The quartet eventually clocked 3 minutes and 47.40 seconds to finish eighth in the final.

In the women’s event, compatriots Hannah Quek, Kathlyn Laiu, Quah Jing Wen and Hoong En Qi, finished 10th out of 20 teams with a timing of 4 minutes and 17.56 seconds

Fong also competed in the men’s 200 metres backstroke event, where he clocked 2 minutes and 7.04 seconds to finish 34th out of 56 swimmers.

Likewise, Koo also featured in the men’s 200 metres butterfly event, clocking a timing of 2 minutes and 5.32 seconds to place 31st. Donovan Lee, who also competed, followed two positions behind in 2 minutes and 5.97 seconds.

In the women’s 200 metres breaststroke, Laiu finished 27th in a 41-strong field with a timing of 2 minutes and 39.58 seconds, while Rachel Tseng capped off the day’s performance with a swim of 2 minutes and 4.29 seconds in the women’s 200 metres freestyle event to finish 22nd out of 74 swimmers.
