Largs, Scotland, November 15, 2014 — Singapore topped the medal table at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships (CFC) for the first time, winning four golds, four silvers, and two bronzes.

They beat England and Scotland, who finished second and third respectively in the medal rankings.

The women’s foil team, the men’s and women’s epee teams, and Wang Wenying in the women’s individual foil delivered wins.

The men’s and women’s sabre teams, Ann Lee in the women’s individual sabre, and Zhang Zhenggang in the men’s individual foil each won silver.

Singapore’s bronze medals came through Cheryl Wong in the women’s individual foil and Wu Jie in the men’s individual foil.

Fencing Singapore’s achievement at CFC comes after they won their first medal ever — a bronze — at the Asian Games in September in Incheon, South Korea, through Lim Wei Wen in the men’s individual epee. Singapore won two silvers and two bronzes at the last CFC.
