Vientiane, Laos, October 10-14, 2012 — Singapore won a total of five gold, two silver, and two bronze medals at the 2012 8th South-east Asian (SEA) Table Tennis Championships.

The men’s team of Li Hu, Clarence Chew, Pang Xuijie and Ma Liang combined to win the team gold with a 3-2 victory over Indonesia.

The women’s team of Zena Sim, Yu Mengyu, Isabelle Li and Yee Herng Hwee had to settle for silver when they went down 2-3 to Thailand.

Li Hu picked up the singles gold with a 4-2 win over a Vietnamese opponent while compatriot Yu Mengyu won the women’s singles gold with a 4-1 win over a Thai opponent.

The men’s doubles saw a 1-2 finish for Singapore, with the pairing of Li Hu and Clarence Chew beating compatriots Ma Liang and Pang Xuejie 3-0 to win gold.

Yu Mengyu and Li Hu also delivered a mixed doubles gold with a 3-2 win over a Vietnamese pair.

72 players from eight countries — Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines and hosts Laos — took part in seven events.
