Toa Payoh Swimming Complex, Friday, June 15, 2012 — Singapore won one gold and two silvers on the first day of synchronised swimming at the 1st Southeast Asia (SEA) Swimming Championships.

Malaysia took the gold medals in both the Technical Solo and Technical Duet routines with 2011 SEA Games Gold Medallist Katrina Ann Abdul Hadi fronting the nation’s charge. She scored 74.67 points in the Technical Solo to take gold while Singapore’s Stephanie Chen scored 68.33 to clinch the silver.

Katrina also took gold in the Technical Duet as she paired up with Zyanne Lee, scoring 75.33 to place first. Singapore’s Stephanie Chen and Crystal Yap scored 70.83 points to win silver.

Singapore then wowed the crowd with a rousing rendition of a ‘spy-thriller’ Team Technical routine, winning gold with a score of 69.67 points in a field of two teams.

“It feels good to get such rousing support from the home crowd. Our team has shown dedication in trainings, in the gym and in dance classes – and it showed. This is the largest number of swimmers we’ve had (15 swimmers) and are proud of our performance today,” said Shan Krishnan, captain of the Singapore team.
