Sengkang Hockey Stadium, Sunday, July 3, 2011 -– The Singapore’s girls’ hockey team beat Thailand 3 -0 in their opening match of the 3rd ASEAN Schools Games.

The first goal came during the first half courtesy of Anastasia Tan (#5) from a penalty corner.

The second half saw Singapore score two field goals in the 59th and 62nd minute, both by Rhys Wong (#11). Thailand had a few chances to score but their efforts were in vain as their shots either went wide or were deflected by the Singapore keeper.

With this win, Singapore are currently tied with Malaysia with one win each, while Thailand are in last place with two losses. Thailand had lost their match against Malaysia 9-0. There are only three countries in the hockey tournament and the top two teams will play in the final.

Singapore will meet Malaysia on Monday, July 4th, 2011 for their last group match.
