India, Tuesday, October 12, 2010 — Gai Bin and Poh Lip Meng won another shooting gold for Singapore at the Commonwealth Games, this time teaming up to win the 25m Standard Pistol event.

The two shooters combined to score 1,116 points, ahead of India (1103) and England (1098).

“It was pressurising. But that’s what happens at such events and at such competitions,” said Lip Meng, who amassed 552 points. “India has always had a stranglehold on this event. I am glad that as a team, we broke that streak in favour of Singapore. It feels good to have won my first gold medal here.”

For Gai Bin, this was his second taste of gold after one gold, two silver and two bronze medals since the games began.

“I am very happy. I am not sure what words I can use to describe what I am feeling right now. The standards here are very high. But I am happy for us and happy for the team. Today, everything we shot just landed at the right spots,” said Gai Bin, who is the most medalled Singapore athlete at the games.

Gai Bin’s achievements have also netted him $140,000 based on the Multi-Million Dollar Award Programme (MAP) administered by the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC). Fellow shooter Jasmine Ser, with two gold and two silver medals, has won $210,000 from the same programme.

In total, the Singapore shooters have four gold, four silver and five bronze medals at the games.
