Bukit Gombak Stadium, September 18-19, 2010 — Madankumar Balakrishnan had a good outing last weekend when he picked up gold in both the 800m and 1500m races at the 72nd Singapore Open Track & Field Meet.

Despite having expended some of his energies earlier in the 800m heats, Madan went on to win the 1500m final in 4 minutes 09.72 seconds, over a fresh Feroz Md Shah who clocked a personal best 4:11.91.

Madan then added a second gold, to the one he won in the 1500m, in the 800m final the next day with a 1:58.46 effort. All three medalists went under 2:00 with Raviin Muthu Kumar timed at 1:59.34 and Oon Kuan Yong at 1:59.40.

In the men’s 4x100m relay, a new-look Singapore team was on display as they came in second in a time of 40.71 seconds at Bukit Gombak. The quartet of Gary Yeo (1st), Md Elfi Mustapa (2nd), Muhd Amirudin Jamal (3rd) and Calvin Kang (4th) were running together for the first time.

Lee Cheng Wei, who was the third runner in the national record-setting relay team in the 2009 Laos SEA Games also comprising Gary (1st), Elfi (2nd) and Amirudin (4th), was out with a hamstring injury. His replacement, Calvin, was himself also just back from a hamstring injury.
