Singapore Indoor Stadium, Wednesday, June 16, 2010 – Resulting from the heavy downpour, water leaked through the Singapore Indoor Stadium’s (SIS) roof keel insulation. Although SIS technicians were able to rectify the leakage within a few hours, some of the matches at the Singapore Badminton Open 2010 Super Series were delayed.

This prompted the Tournament Referee to push the evening’s games scheduled from 8.20pm onwards to 9am tomorrow. Referee Isabelle Jobard, who has refereed in the Athens and Beijing Olympics explained, “If we continue the tournament as scheduled, some of the matches will be played till as late as 3am. The decision to reschedule those games is in the best interests of the players.”

Singapore Indoor Stadium chief executive officer Denise Marsh said, “SIS’s facilities personnel investigated roof leakage issues that occurred today at the venue during the preliminary rounds of the tournament. The cause of the leak was found to be water penetrating under SIS’ roof keel insulation caused by heavy seasonal weather conditions. Immediate action was taken to rectify the problem and random checks have been increased to prevent recurrence of this unfortunate disruption to play.”

The Singapore Badminton Association invites fans holding today’s daily tickets to either exchange them for a ticket for tomorrow’s matches or ask for a full refund (within a week) from the SISTIC outlet at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Operating hours at SISTIC (Singapore Indoor Stadium) have been extended to:
Closing Time (16 June 2010) – 10pm
Opening Time (17 June 2010) – 8.30am
