Tanah Merah Country Club, Friday, February 29, 2008 – Singapore’s Amelia Yong finished 4-over-par on the second day of the HSBC Women’s Champions and is now 9-over-par over two rounds. Amelia had two birdies and two doubles, with the birdies coming on the last and 14th hole. She bogeyed the par-4 first hole and the par-5 fifth.

Giving her encouragement on the sidelines were her mother, Janet Yong and sister Jasmine Yong. After her 16-year-old daughter Amelia birdied the 14th hole, Jasmine Yong said, “She has been impressive on certain holes. We’ve encouraged her to have fun and not to pressurise herself even though Amelia set herself the target of making the top 30. We are all very proud of her.”

Amelia, who is a Secondary Four student from St Joseph’s Convent, will tee off tomorrow morning on the 10th hole at 10:25 a.m. with Julieta Granada of Paraguay and Emily Bastel of America. Granada and Bastel are 9-over-par and 10-over-par respectively after two rounds.
