40th Singapore National Bowling Championships

Singapore, Saturday, 28 November 2009 – 2006 Asian Games Trios silver medalist, Lee Yu-Wen, 29, and national youth bowler Fok Ka Wai, 19, won their respective gender Open categories at the 40th Singapore National Bowling Championships.

Lee Yu-Wen beat world champion, Remy Ong, 31, in the Step Ladder Grand Finals by 23 pinfalls (223-200).

Remy and former national youth bowler Benjamin Hong, 26, who finished third, had a tough fight in the one-game roll-off. Remy managed to win with 258 pinfalls despite Benjamin having bagged seven strikes from the second frame onwards. Benjamin eventually finished with 237 pinfalls.

New Hui Fen, 17, won with 224 pinfalls against Jennifer Tan, 31, who managed to secure only 185 pinfalls in the one-game roll-off.

While competing against Fok Ka Wai, Hui Fen managed to secure a win in the first game with 172 pinfalls compared to Ka Wai’s 140 pinfalls. However, in the second game, Ka Wai triumphed over Asian Youth Games double gold medalist Hui Fen 201-172.

This is Fok Ka Wai’s first gold medal in the Open division. Her previous win was in the Youth Division at the 2009 Indonesian International Open.
