Australia, Sunday, August 2, 2009 – Singapore failed to bag a single point after the completion of Round 2 in their maiden participation in the Australian Netball League (ANL).

Over the next 2 months, Singapore will be competing with 10 other teams from the different states of Australia in the ANL, and will play a total of 7 preliminary rounds, the last of which ends on September 6.

The games will be held in various states in Australia and Toa Payoh Sports Hall in Singapore, with the final being played in Queensland on September 13.

Singapore started their campaign on Wednesday, July 29, against Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), which finished runners-up in last year's ANL competition. AIS dominated the game from the start to win 86-17.

In their second match, Singapore was up against Queensland Fusion (QF), and they continued to struggle. QF dominated the first quarter to take a 12-4 lead. Singapore went for more interceptions to narrow the margin, but their efforts failed to pay off as they trailed 28-11 at the half.

Tighter defence in the third quarter, coupled with an impressive 90% shooting accuracy, aided QF in taking the quarter 27-4. They then proceeded to wrap the game up 75-22 with a strong finish.

Singapore faced South Australia in their third game, with the latter proving too strong for Singapore. South Australia took a convincing 18-point lead by the end of first quarter, and widened the lead further to 31 points by half-time. They finally finished off the Singapore team 79-24.

In the final game of Round 2, Singapore failed to break their winless streak, as Tasmania took the lead from the opening whistle and logged their first win of the league with a 58-21 victory.

Singapore will be meeting Netball NSW Waratah, Canberra Darters and Netball NSW Blues in Round 3.
