Kallang Netball Centre, Saturday, June 28, 2008 – A strong Avalanche side lead from the first quarter to beat Nike Swoosh (NS) 36-29 in a Division 2 Netball League match at the Kallang Netball Centre last Saturday. The win leaves them with 10 points from 6 games and a great chance of topping Division 2. For NS, however, there wasn't much good new as they have managed only 4 points from 5 games.

NS played really well, especially in the first quarter when they dominated the game. They drew contact from Avalanche players, giving NS plenty of free passes. The NS GD was also extremely vocal, praising her teammates when they did something right and encouraging them when they lost the ball. Despite that, Avalanche with great passing and counter-attacking plays, took a slender 7-6 lead into the second quarter.

From this point on, Avalanche never trailed. Great teamwork was key for Avalanche as they began to control the game. The NS GD also seemed to lose her voice as her team trailed. The half ended with Avalanche leading 19-13.

However, NS were not to be outdone. The voice of the NS GD came back to life in the third quarter as her team made some great plays and shots. Although it seemed like a comeback was on the cards, Avalanche, once again with counter-attacking plays, extended the lead and ended the quarter with plenty of energy and a 30-22 scoreline.

This energy was carried into the final quarter as Avalanche began to control the game. Exhaustion began to show on the faces of the NS players, and it was clear they were losing their hold on the game. A short break was even necessary for the NS GD, who up to this point was wonderful, as she was too exhausted. With their great energy, Avalanche controlled the rest of the game.

When asked about their chances of finishing top of the division, Avalanche coach was wary of complacency, saying," The next game is our crucial one. I would have to see that game before commenting on our chances."

Whatever it is, their chances sure looks good with only one game left to play.
