Story by Ian Chew/Red Sports
The Cagers basketball team prepared for their upcoming competition in the best possible way – maintaining a near-perfect record in their Taiwan training tour match-ups.
Organised by their team manager, the one-week training stint involved all the members of the team, including the entire coaching staff, packing off to Taiwan on 19 June. The trip is to prepare them before their first major test when they face three other teams – Segamat Rimba Timor, Malaysian Junior Mens team and Indonesia’s Cahaya Lestari Surabaya (CLS) – in the Cagers Asia Basketball Challenge. The event is scheduled for June 27-29 at the Jurong East Sports Complex.
The Cagers’ six-wins-and-one-draw record was all the more astounding when considering the opposition: four top-8 senior high school teams and two matches against a professional Taiwanese league team. All these came on top of a gruelling two-match per day schedule which aimed to maximise the players’ exposure to as many high quality matches as possible.
Of the four wins, the most gratifying one must be the double victory against the Taiwanese professional outfit Taiwan Beer, the current basketball league champions in Taiwan.
Said Oh Thian Soon, assistant head coach of the Cagers about the 93-89 and 114-98 wins on Saturday and Sunday evenings respectively against Taiwan Beer:
“This must be one of exceptionally rare times that any Singaporean team has faced off with a team of such quality and come away with a double win!”
“Although Taiwan Beer’s Wu Dai Hao and Ha Xiao Yuan turned out for us, the rest of our Singapore youngsters performed heroics in standing toe-to-toe with the Taiwanese giants. This can only bode well for the future of our team!”
The Cagers training tour had enjoyed a dream start when they beat Neng Ren Jia Shang 98-88, one of the premier basketball Senior High school teams in Taiwan. Subsequent victories came against Jun Yi Senior High (75-58), Min Xin University (82-52) and a draw against Song Shan Senior High (87-87).
They then wrapped up their tour with an 82-65 win over Nan Shan Senior High School (who came in second in this year’s Senior High competition) before returning to Singapore on 23 June.
Mighty impressive stuff, for a training tour.

Samantha You are right that he injured last month and the game was postpone from 6 to 8 of june to 27 to 29 of june because of him( he will be back to taiwan from US only on 20th,). and he assume he will recover in time, but during our training tour in taiwan he told our staff that he will not be able to play in singapore, and the story follows. Samantha you can call our marketing company and full refund will be returned to you. really sorry to disappoint you this time, but we will do it better the next time round.
haha Taiwan basketball association ban 24 players from playing in oversea league and Chen Xin Ann top the list.
ok..I await news on Yulon coming..wif Xin An preferbably..reports sayin he gg CBA to try impress Nba scouts
haha trust me u will not be disappointed
What you say and what he say are totally different… Really puzzled now. He’s injured last month but he has already resumed training now. If we have to wait for the news of him not playing, it’ll be too late. Many people might still don’t know. I have still yet to see the news of him not playing. How do these people go about refunding their tickets?
haha..thx..if he comin i every match sure go support!!!!!!hahaha..
but samantha ur news is really fast, i think we had not relese to media yet about johny absent as it is just confirmed today afternoon
haha next time we invite yulong so that you can see chen xin an
The Taiwanese are still coming, Johny will not be here not to cut cost but due to him injured and will not be able to feature in any of the match, and there is no other activities arrange for him and is his own decision to miss this trip. We accept refund as it is not fair for those who turn up just to see him
Heard the Taiwanese players won’t be coming… Is that true? Johnny yan isnt coming apparently because the organisers told him last minute that they need to lower their costs… What crap is this? What about the ppl who bought the tickets to see him play? My overseas friends already bought tickets just to see him play. Will the tickets be refunded?
haha..ya..I follow both their news & matches throughout..No photo wif Chen Xin An ( Yulon 3)?
haha u know yulong players very well hor, this photo is taken in yulong building

It will be great if you could provide me with their flight details! =D
Many thanks!

the green shirt is called Wu zhi wei(yulong), not Wu Dai Hao.
Cagers won the last match also 82-65 against nan shan
the taiwanese will arrive on the 26th only
wow… cant wait to see the cagers play!
By the way, will the taiwan players come back together with them today?
Will the taiwan players and the cagers have pre training sesions together?
You are right, The 2 players in photo are taiwan top 2 centre wu dai hao from taiwan beer and zeng wen ding from yulong
Mr Ian Chew, if I’m wrong, the last picture of the taiwan centres, the guy is blue shirt is called zeng wen ding, not the other 2 names. and he doesnt play for taiwan beer, he played for yulong
