National Stadium, Thursday, June 11, 2015 — Eliza Ng, Singapore’s sole representative in the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games women’s 1500m final of the athletics competition, finished sixth, while Singapore’s Raviin s/o Muthu Kumar and Fang Jianyong came in seventh and eighth in the men’s 1500m respectively.

Vietnam once again proved dominant, sweeping both gold medals in the respective races.

SEA Games 800m gold medallist Do Thi Thao claimed her second gold of the Games with a time of 4:28.39, finishing ahead of compatriot Nguyen Thi Phuong.

Eliza started out last in her second race in as many days, but resolutely climbed her way up the field. She eventually finished sixth out of eight runners with a time of 4:57.41, just over her personal best of 4:56.79.

In the men’s 1500m, 27th SEA Games men’s 1500m champion Duong Van Thai successfully defended his crown in a closely contested race, which saw eight out of ten competitors achieve personal or season best timings.

Jianyong, still nursing a hamstring injury sustained two weeks before the Games, finished eighth with a time of 4:00.33.

Raviin finished seventh, clocking a personal best of 3:56.96. On breaking the 4-minute barrier, he said, “With this new breakthrough, I think that I can go a bit further, and definitely the next major games, I’ll do a good timing then.”
