Hi athletes,

A couple of St Andrew’s boys sent me this story of their Sports Day and I thought I’d share it with all of you because as an athlete, I am sure you remember your first Sports Day like it was yesterday. Certainly for many of you, your first Sports Day was when you realised how fast you really were, when you left everyone in your trail.

So here’s to good Sports Day memories.

If you’d like to share pictures and stories of your school’s Sports Day, please feel free to do. On another day, I’ll tell you how I came in dead last in a 200m sprint.  And I wasn’t even supposed to be there.  Ha ha.

Red Sports. Always Game.

ST ANDREW’S JUNIOR SCHOOL COMBINED SPORTS DAY

10th March 2007 at SAJC Sports Stadium
Guest-of-Honour: Mrs. Belinda Charles, Principal, SASS.

Pupils, teachers, parents and siblings were gathered at SAJS way before 7.30am. They marched to the SAJC Sports Stadium across the Jacob Ballas Bridge.

This was more than a Sports Day. It was a fantastic family carnival – great atmosphere, many, many grandparents and parents were there. Families and siblings were dressed in the sports T-shirts of the games Houses of their children – Gomes, Hose, Loyfatt, Romanis and Venn.

There were lots of cheering, decorations, whistles, plastic tube clappers and challenges by the cheer leaders of the respective houses against each other and keenly supported by their parents.

There were 22 events. 13 were team/fun events of which 9 were for Pri 1 – 3. The P1-3 events were time consuming but necessary. Many parents were there because of the P1-3s.

The highlight of the day was event 22 – Parents-Teachers Relay. The parents were grouped in the Houses they represented in their school days or in their children’s Houses.

It was about 11.20am and though tired as they were because of the long and hot day, the sons and pupils cheered loudly to support their parents and teachers.

By about 12 noon, the prizes for the last few events were presented and the Sports day came to the end. Yes it was a very long day especially for the young ones but generally, they enjoyed it.
