Physical and Sports Education Branch, Wednesday, August 12, 2015 — St. Andrew’s Secondary saw off a spirited Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) 19-7 to qualify for the final of the National C Division Rugby Championship.
St. Andrew’s qualified for the semi-final as winners of the preliminary round group with a perfect 5-0 win-loss record. ACS(BR) had finished fourth with a 2-3 record.
Saints had beaten ACS(BR) 53-0 in the preliminary round but there was to be no repeat of that after they found themselves down 0-7 at half time after ACS(BR) scored a converted try.
However, the boys in blue and white, undefeated throughout the season, responded in the second half. They scored an early converted try to even the tie up at 7-7. Saints added two more tries, converting the third try to go ahead 19-7.
ACS(BR) then camped in the Saints half and threatened to score another try but time ran out on them.
St. Andrew’s will now meet ACS (Independent) in the final. ACS(I) beat Raffles Institution 7-3 in the other semi-final.
