With the game tied 10-10 even after extra time, St Andrew’s Junior College (SAJC) were awarded the game against Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) having scored the first try in the game.
The team were evenly matched throughout the game. ACJC scored a penalty through Azmi at about the 10th minute. SAJC scored a try on the 25th minute of play but failed to convert. Half time score was 5 – 3 to SAJC.
ACJC scored a try starting with a blistering run by Andrew Yap for a good 50 metres before passing it to Ming Xia at the 22 to finish the try. With the conversion, ACJC led 10 -5. SAJC responded with a try later but failed to convert.
With the score at 10-10, the game went into extra time.
Both teams were fighting hard during extra time and a penalty was given to ACJC. Unfortunately from about 30 metres out, it was not converted and the game ended at 10 apiece.
However, after deliberation and checking with officials, the referee awarded the game to SAJC having scored the first try in the game.
Too bad for ACJC that the game had to end in such a way. I am also sure that SAJC did not want a win in this manner anyway but rules of the game have to be followed.
Both teams played well and tough on a hard pitch.
Scoring statistics (according to a Saint):
4.47pm SAJC 0 – 3 ACJC (penalty)
5.08 SAJC (1try) 5 – 3 ACJC
5.29 SAJC 5 – 10 ACJC (1 try, 1 penalty, 1 conversion)
5.36 SAJC (2 tries) 10 – 10 ACJC

this time in Final…
10-10 at full time again
extra time again
referee awarded a crucial penalty to RJC against ACS(i) (which could ‘kill’ ACS(i)) like the crucial penalty awarded to ACJC against SAJC (which could ‘kill’ SAJC) during the extra time…
but the difference is…
RJC managed to convert that penalty whereas in 3rd/4th, ACJC fail to convert it.
**must be really hard for ACS to accept another defeat**
tough.
but this rule is already stated in the Rule Book, and since a U17 National School Player know that the rule, it should meant that this rule is brought across to all schs reps, so if the school players dun know the rule, it only meant they are not well brief by their teacher in charge and they did not go thru the rules.
Anyway, who say the referee was bias against ACJC…. the referee awarded a crucial penalty to ACJC against SAJC (which could ‘kill’ SAJC) during the extra time though SAJC was dominating thruout the 20 minutes extra time.
SA is appointed Convenor by MOE CCAB, not Singapore Police Force.
Why should the ‘win’ be decided by who scored the first try in regulation time? AC scored the first points through a penalty. Aren’t penalty points important enough to decide a deadlock? It should not matter who scored more tries or who had scored the first try.

Nobody said that SA Principal, being a woman, is not right for the job! All I asked was why SA as convenor all these years?
No one doubts her integrity.
Why the necessary defence? No need to bring an innocent lady into the foray.
If SA has been appointed the convenor by the Police Force to run their tournament, so be it. Just my simple observance of the fact that SA as been the convenor for many years. That’s all!
If it says so in the Rules of Rugby for Schools, then so be it.
No need to elaborate anymore about women.
why not go to kicks after extra time? it would have been more fair to both teams.
regarding ACfans and SAfans debating over which team played better and should’ve been the winner, it doesn’t matter. Bottom-line, what matters is the score and since they had to resort to scores after extra time, from a neutral point of view, it is quite understandable why the committee awarded SA with the win, seeing that SA scored first and most tries.
But still, its a funny rule, and quite unfair. they should’ve applied the rule only after the kicks. if its still a draw after the kicks, now that, i would call a deadlock.
this is in the rule book according to a school rugger.
okay, made a discovery. i think this would interest everyone.
it is stated in the Rules for Schools Rugby for 2007, if both teams are tied after extra time (excluding 0-0 tie), the school which which scores the 1st try will be declared the winner, if both teams tied at 0-0 after extra time, then both teams will have to choose 5players to take penalty kicks, 22m out.
just and fair as in got nothing to hide.
ya. SAS is just the Rugby Convenor, as simple as that.
Base on my 10 years in St Andrew’s and the knowledge I have of SAS principal who has been a principal in SA for 17 years, she is a just woman and all the remarks I have of her from other students and alumni are all postive, even a student she expelled said she is a GOOD principal. So i choose to believe that the rugby Sub-Committee she led and SAS (the rugby convenor) did nothing that cannot face the light, every decision made is just and fair.
Most of you are missing the point I’ve made above. How to settle a deadlock after extra time produces no breakthrough….ok,whatever was decided BEFORE the competition even began… will be applied. Following? So, if the Org committee had already decided that whichever team scored a try first will then be declared the winner. And if all the rugby playing schools had accepted it, then there is nothing to complain about.
In this scenario, the teacher rep of each school attending the meeting and having notes, minutes, competition rules, entry forms etc..should have gone back to their respective school to brief their own players and staff….as to in the event of a stalemate even after extra time…. All these should have been in black and white (as I’ve said earlier ) and CANNOT be left to the Ref’s discretion. I can only assume that, that was done.
It is not the Ref’s job to brief the players about all this before play starts.
IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF YOUR OWN TRS i/c who should be familiar with the competition format.
One more thing, I mentioned SAS is the Rugby Convenor as a simple point of fact, nothing more.
Red Coach DYip
How come SA always the convenor all these years?
Isn’t there someone else able to do the job?
This should change with convenors not serving more than 2 years or 3 at most in a row.
if you are not happy? write in to to Singapore Police Force or MOE CCAB.
Don’t create a fuss here.
i’m sure both sides do not want another round of ‘firings’ and their schools be ‘fired’. and i’m also sure Les & his RedSports Team do not want that.
the match is over, SAJC is 3rd and it will be declared tomorrow.
happy or not? no matter how dissatisfied you are with the ruling and the outcome of the match, it is over and nothing can change the fact.

hey neutral… get a real name mate.. stop using neutral.
if you had been there watching. you would have known how biased the referee was. seriously, im not kidding. i think both teams are great. but i would say that ac is better. look at the way ac played and sa played. ac was the better team honestly. and the referee was totally biased. ad the rule is so damn stupid. how can they use such a rule to judge. its not fair to either team. because in that case, sa didnt win gloriously and ac lost unfairly. things have gotta change.
anyway, great job to both teams.
ac fan, dont you think that it goes both ways? the ref had not informed both teams, therefore it is also fair to say sa had no idea and would have played their cards differently knowing they had to score in extra time if you actually deem that excuse is legitimate for ac. moreover, both teams had gone into the game knowing that the ref is uncontrollable factor, therefore i feel it is not fair to say the ref was picking on ac. i feel that you should look at this in a neutral form instead of siding a particular team.
i swear the pic with abel huggin the guy looks wrong
