Temasek Polytechnic, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 — Nanyang Technological University (NTU) dominated Singapore Polytechnic (SP) 61-29 in their first game of the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic(IVP) Women’s Basketball Championship.

Shermaine See (NTU #7) made four 3-pointers to record a game high of 14 points. Foo Yuan Ru (SP #11) scored a team high of eight points.

NTU got the tip but it was Amanda Ng (SP #17) who scored the first point of the game with a floater shot. However, Shermaine See (NTU #7) sank her first 3-pointer and NTU started to pull away.

SP had trouble making their shots and had many turnovers which NTU converted into points.

NTU scored three 3-pointers just five minutes into the quarter and had a comfortable 20-2 lead heading into the second.

SP made many turn overs in the 2nd quarter as well and they constantly left loopholes in their defense for NTU to make easy baskets.

NTU led 29-8 at half time.

SP started the 3rd quarter with better plays and moved the ball better. This resulted in more attempts and a higher scoring percentage. Their defense also became tighter, stopping NTU’s drives and fast breaks.

SP edged the quarter 17-16 but still trailed by 20 points (25-45) heading into the fourth.

The intensity of both teams declined in the fourth quarter. NTU outscored SP 16-4 to wrap up the comfortable win.

Captain Shermaine See (NTU #7) said, “Our defense turned out not as good as we expected. This would be our main focus for the rest of our games.

“This is the first time playing in this court and we definitely have to get used to it as well as building more team chemistry as the games progress.

“SP played relatively well. I have to compliment on their aggressive defense and that they did their best in both offense and defense.”
