Bishan Stadium, Monday, April 25, 2016 — Jezebel Koh of Singapore Sports School (SSP) clinched the B Division Girls’ high jump gold at the 57th National Schools Track and Field Championships, clearing a height of 1.52 metres with her second attempt.

Yin Yichen of Cedar Girls’ Secondary and Jezebel’s SSP teammate Cherlin Sia both cleared 1.50m, with Yichen winning the silver on countback. Yichen had come in fifth in the triple jump, while Cherlin was the champion in the girls’ open pole vault.

This was Jezebel’s second consecutive B Division high jump gold, after she had won last year with a 1.54m jump. In 2014, she had come in second in the C Division with a 1.50m clearance.

Just two weeks ago, Jezebel had also claimed her third National Schools triple jump gold in a row, leaping an impressive 10.94m. She had also won in the B Division last year with a 10.92m leap, while she won the C Division event in 2014 by jumping 10.35m.

On her two victories, Jezebel commented, “I did not have high expectations going into the competition, especially for high jump, as I was not in the best form. So I was surprised and pleased with my performance as I managed to go near my personal best. All in all, I am very happy and grateful to be able to get the golds.”

Acknowledging her support network, she added, “I would like to thank my coach Ms Jenny, my friends and especially my parents for the support they have given me.”

Jezebel’s victories contributed 18 valuable points to SSP, who sit in third place with 93 points in the B Division Girls’ overall team standings, going into the final day of competition. Nanyang Girls’ High School are just five points ahead in second place.
