Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Wednesday, April 22, 2015 — Debuting in his first A Division high jump event for Raffles Institution, Bryan Wong (#163) cleared a height of 1.95 metres to clinch the title at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.

Bryan is the holder of the national under-17 record of 2.02m, set in last year’s B Division boys’ high jump final, which he won.

Despite clearing a similar height of 1.95 metres, Hwa Chong Institution’s Ong Sim Hao (#273) settled for the silver medal on a count back, while teammate David Chung (#250) cleared a personal best of 1.91 metres to complete the podium.

Bryan and Sim Hao both cleared 2.02m during the Southeast Asian Games qualifying period to tie for second place in the rankings, with only two spots up for grabs. Sim Hao was eventually selected for the Games that will be held in Singapore in June, along with Muhd Nasiruddin who cleared 2.03m.

With the win, Bryan now has a complete set of high jump gold medals won in the boys’ C, B and A divisions. He became the eighth jumper in the last 27 years to achieve such a feat.

The A Division boys’ high jump record is 2.06m and it was set by St. Andrew’s Junior College alumnus, Huang Yaotong, in 1989.
