Bukit Gombak Stadium, Thursday, April 9, 2015 — In her third throw attempt, Cedar Girls’ Secondary’s Scarlett Lin (#238) recorded a throw distance of 27.30 metres to set a new meet record in the C Division girls’ javelin at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.

Lin’s (#238) finish is a new personal best, and bettered the previous record of 27.17m, set last year by Dorcas Ang of Nanyang Girls’ High.

“I actually didn’t know that I broke the record, and I’m really really happy that I broke the record,” said Lin (#238).

“It took me quite a while to register it, because they (the officials) took quite a long while to measure the throw attempt.”

The Cedar Girls’ Secondary student credits her win to her coach and her teammates.

She added, “On competition day, you just have to believe in yourself, believe in coach and my teammates who believe in me.”

The record is set with a 500g javelin, which only came into use in 2014. Prior to that, a 600g javelin was used for competition.

Lin (#238) established herself as the top contender in the field right from her first throw attempt of 23.43m. The result would still put her in pole position for the gold medal.

Joy Lee (#377) of Nanyang Girls’ High followed in second place when she registered a throw distance of 22.37m on her second attempt. Lin’s (#238) teammate, Megan Emma Too (#243), completed the podium with a throw distance of 22.13m on her fifth attempt.
