55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships A Division 200m Girls

Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Monday, April 14, 2014 — Thia Yi Yi of Hwa Chong Institution clinched the girls’ A Division 200m gold medal with a personal best timing of 26.18 seconds at the 55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships.

Janine Lim of Victoria Junior College bagged the silver medal with a timing of 27.17 seconds, while Elizabeth Jane Ong of Raffles Institution finished third in 27.67 seconds.

The HCI student commented, “I am quite thankful that I managed to finish all my individual events without any injuries. Last year, I had a hamstring pull during the nationals so I could not do anything. I want to thank my coach and my friends for supporting me.”

The electronically-timed A Division 200m record of 25.61s was set in 2005 by National Junior College alumna, Lee Yan Lin. The hand-timed record of 24.6s was set in 1984 by Ang Mo Kio Secondary alumna, Prema Govindan. It was also a then-national record.
