Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Thursday, April 11, 2013 — Kerstin Ong of Singapore Sports School set a personal best when she clocked 14.99 seconds to take home the gold for the B Division girls’ 100m hurdles event at the 54th National Schools Track and Field Championships. She narrowly missed out on the record by 0.16s.

The Championship record is 14.83s, set by Jannah Wong Min, then of CHIJ Katong Convent, in 2012.

Kerstin showed massive improvement from last year’s showing, where she won the silver in 15.97.

Before her win, Kerstin had already qualified for the SEA Youth Championships and the Asian Youth Games (AYG), based on the timings she had clocked at the various SAA series and national juniors meets.

“I’m very happy with my personal best today!” Kerstin beamed. “With the higher level of competition at the SEA Youth and AYG, I’m hoping to go below 14.8s!”
