B Div Steeplechase: Victoria’s Venuraam wins gold for third year running

Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Tuesday, April 3, 2012 — Two-time defending champion Venuraam s/o Selvan from Victoria School successfully defended his crown yet again when he won the B Division Boys’ 2000m Steeplechase race with a time of 6 minutes 33.57 seconds at the 53rd National Schools Track & Field Championships 2012.

In 2010, he won the race with a time of 6 minutes 43.98 seconds before defending his title last year, where he achieved a new personal best of 6:32.43. This year, he managed to hold off the competition yet again to win the race for a third consecutive year.

Thineshwaran s/o Krishnakumar from Bendemeer Secondary finished in second place with a time of 6:42.51. Joel Ng from Hwa Chong Institution was third with a time of 6:49.68.

The last athlete to win three consecutive B Division 2000m Steeplechase titles at the Schools’ Championships was Narayan Paudel, also of Victoria School.
