Clementi Sports Complex, Friday, March 2, 2012 — Jurong Secondary beat Kranji Secondary 59-47 to finish third in in the West Zone B Division Girls’ Basketball Championship.

Jurong’s win made up for the disappointment of losing 70-39 to Unity Secondary during the semi-finals. Jurong last finished in the top four during the 2010 season. That year, they also finished third.

Jurong finished their zonal championship with a 4-2 win-loss record while Kranji take a 2-3 record into the national championship.

Jurong were comfortably ahead 42-16 at half time before Kranji came back to out-score Jurong 10-9 in the third quarter. Even then, Jurong were still leading 51-26 heading into the final quarter.

The game picked up in the fourth quarter as Kranji made something of a comeback but Jurong were always in control to wrap up the victory.

Nanyang Girls’ High and Unity will contest the West Zone final on Tuesday, March 6th, 1:30pm at Jurong East Sports Complex.

The four schools — Nanyang Girls’ High, Unity, Jurong and Kranji — qualified for the national championship by virtue of finishing in the top four of the zone.
