Padang, Saturday, November 5, 2011 — The Singapore national team and the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) are set to play in the Bowl Competition of the SCC International Rugby 7s Tournament after failing to make it to the main draw of the Cup.

On the first day of competition, the Singapore team lost to Kenyan side Impala 22-5. They were then thrashed by New Zealand side Ponsonby 52-0 in the second day of competition before losing their third group match 24-0 to Australian team East Arnhem Rugby. They finished bottom of Pool A.

SCC fared slightly better as they achieved a third place finish in Pool B. On the first day, they were thrashed by Australian side Sunnybank 52-0 before losing to the France development team 32-0 on the second day of competition. They however managed to notch a credible win in their third and final pool match when they beat Bruneian team, The Flying Kukris, 40-12.

A third Singapore-based team, Bucks RFC, also finished in fourth spot of their group, after losing 38-0 to Fiji’s Davetalevu, 33-0 to French side NAPTHA Pyrenees 7s, and 17-7 to Australian side Cottesloe.

The Singapore national team will take on the Te Kaha Pirates next while the SCC will play Indonesian Harimau. Bucks RFC will play The Flying Kukris in the Bowl.
