Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Monday, April 18, 2011 — Eleanor Chua of Hwa Chong Institution took gold in the A Division Girls’ High Jump event at the 52nd National Inter-School Track and Field Championships after clearing a height of 1.53m. The Hwa Chong volleyballer was making her maiden appearance at the competition.

Tan Guan Rong from Raffles Institution took silver after she cleared a height of 1.50m. The bronze medal was shared by three athletes — Jennifer Sim from Catholic JC, Jewel Tai from HCI and Lim Shuen from RI — after they all cleared a height of 1.50m. All three took more attempts than Guan Rong and hence had to settle for third place.

Jewel had improved from her eighth place finish last year while defending champion Jessica Lee of Victoria JC only managed to clear a height of 1.40m to finish in a distant seventh place.

She was however not so lucky on her subsequent attempt as she injured herself after clipping the bar and had to exit the competition. It was however good enough for a bronze medal.
