CCAB, August 12, 2009 – Anglo-Chinese School (Primary) beat Qifa Primary 28-0 to capture the U-11 Rugby Championship title for the first time since the competition’s inception in 2005.
The victory was the sweeter for ACS(P) as they dumped out four-time defending champions St Andrew’s Junior 21-0 in the semi-finals. St Andrew’s were the only previous winners of the competition.
Qifa Primary qualified for the final after beating Gongshang Primary 14-0 in the semi-finals.
@passerby, In my year(B div 2008) in which we won our respective C and B div titles, 7 were from primary, 2 of which never played rugby there, 9 were from junior, another 3 of which never played rugby there. We had 1 dsa from a neighbourhood school. The other 9 from other schools never played rugby before. Basically we had 25 players, 14 of which never touched a rugby ball until they joined independent.
Timo – get the stats right – 2009 there were only 4 primary – 5 junior – and the squad is 34 strong
passerby – Where did they get them – SINGAPORE is that what really counts –
2009 – despite all the past complaints – 42 Singaporeans from the acs family are involved in 3 National academy teams and the national 20 team – Raffles have the next highest representation –
Looking forward to Monday – Friday and so on – the growth is the future – and now we have sevens in the olympics – what chances a team from Singapore , made up from the kids from this years 11 to 16 groups ???
well said passerby.
I think we should congratulate all the boys who took part in the U11 Nationals for their fine performance. Kudos to ACS (Primary) rugby team for their fine display of rugby and spirit. The standard of rugby in the primary school scene is amazing.
Let’s not take away the spotlight from all these fine young men and get involved in a slugging match about DSAs and what not. Let’s take this moment to celebrate the achievement of these boys. Just a reminder that the primary school boys are reading these comments and will pick up whatever prejudices and biases that we display through our words. So please do not go overboard.
Thanks.
Its quite an eye openner, to watch the National U11. The quality of play from some of the schools were indeed impressive especially from our neighbourhood schools who does not have a rich tradition into the sports of rugby. What really stands out was the team from ACS Primary. The type of competitiveness and spirits among those young boys are beyond words.. a class above the rest 21-0 vs Saints and 28-0 vs Qifa.This is one great team to watch into 2010 when they compete in the U13..Saints of cos was another superb team together with Qifa and Gongshang. Saints would have been placed 2nd if not for the way it was drawn..

@passerby
i know for a fact that 90% of the DSA rugby players in acsi are from acs primary and acs junior.
Saints won the U-13 title beating Casuarina Primary 21-0 in April. ACS(P) were the best team in the competition though they lost to Saints in the semis.
Congrats to the ACS family of schools for winning their very first national rugby title for this year since the start of january, and also their very first national rugby title in the primary schools level (since 1996 when a national level rugby competition for primary schools was first held).
I wonder where did ACS(i) get all their good rugby players? from which primary schools outside of the two ACS schools… Perhaps it’s time they should start training their own players from their very own primary schools.
Looking forward to see who will win the last two titles; the C-Division and the Under-13.
