SAFRA Mount Faber, Sunday, November 30, 2008 – 100 teenagers packed SAFRA Mount Faber SuperBowl on a Sunday afternoon for Bowl With A Heart 2008. Organised by the People's Association T-Net Club for the second year, this silent bowling to overcome language barrier was anything but quiet!

Though team members didn't speak to one another in the usual way, the alleys were filled with sounds of bowling balls rolling down the lanes and pins being knocked off the lanes.

Our teenagers learnt to break the silence by using the sign language to communicate, working together in teams with students from the Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf).

20 teams vied for first place as they bowled countless spares, strikes, doubles and turkeys.

After a 3-game series, Team "Wolverine" emerged Champion with a total pin fall of 1577. The First Runner-up was Team "Spiderman" with 1435 pin falls, followed by Team "Incredible Hulk" with 1401 pin falls.

Team members came from the various T-Net Clubs and SADeaf's Sports & Recreation Committee of the Deaf (SRCDeaf).

Kudos to Lim Teck Kee and Tan Hui Qin from the SRCDeaf, who won the Best Male and Best Female trophies with scores of 574 and 419 respectively.

Aiming to bring teenagers of different abilities together and to enable better communication with their friends from the SADeaf, a basic sign language course was conducted previously for our teenagers by teachers from the SADeaf.

"I was quite nervous initially as I didn't know how to communicate with people who are hearing-impaired. But now I can ´speak' to my new friends using the sign language I've learnt and I enjoyed myself at "Bowl with a Heart 2008"!" exclaimed Amin Kurniawan Bin Kasim enthusiastically, 13, a member of T-Net Club @ Ang Mo Kio.

About T-Net Club
The T-Net Club, established in November 2002, aims to provide opportunities for teenagers from 11 to 16 years old to pursue their interests and to develop their potentials through a wide array of meaningful and challenging activities such as adventure and sports, performing arts, community service and educational programmes.

T-Net Club's programmes and activities, organised by its eight Clubs, allow its 8,000 members from all walks of life, regardless of race, religion and educational backgrounds, to interact and bond.

To cater to the different interests of their members, the eight Clubs form interest groups in areas such as sports (such as basketball and street soccer) and performing arts (such as hip hop, cultural dance and lion and dragon dances) and provide platforms for members to showcase their talents and expertise in these areas, such as the T-Net Club Sports Fiesta featuring competitions in the street version of basketball, soccer and netball and the T-Net Club Premier League.

As part of its 5th Anniversary celebrations, the T-Net Club Educational Series was introduced in 2007, with the Sudoku Competition, Mathematics Genius, History Wizard, Chinese Quiz, Malay Quiz and Sports Quiz organised to date.
