Once in a while, someone will come in to say something nice about Red Sports. We are grateful. Then, once in a while, someone will come in to take a bite out of Red Sports, or specifically, me. So here, for everybody to see, is the lecture I got for not covering the plate final in person:
Said jjcian: “First of all, I am not a rugger. I am just unhappy that it took so long for this story to be up. But since it's up, I thank Mr. Ng Cheng Cong. But you les, you haven't been helpful at all. My school's ruggers played hard and played well to get into the Plate Finals. I believed they deserved recognition way earlier than the Cup Finals. However, the Cup Finals were reported just a day after their match and it took 17 days to report our match. The story was also covered by you, and this raises a question. Why weren't you there at the Plate Finals? It may be just a PLATE final to you, but for our ruggers and cj ruggers, it meant a whole lot more. So can you imagine the pain, coupled by the lack of recognition, our ruggers felt? I am a close friend of one of the ruggers, and I was told by him that he felt that the Plates are not taken seriously at all. And that after all the injuries suffered by both teams during the run to the Plate Final, he thought that we deserved more credit. So I believe I'm speaking on behalf of the whole JJ team and the CJ team.
Lastly, I think you should not treat us like small children. "Next year I'll be telling the volunteers to go cover another game/sport to save themselves the abuse." That sentence sounds like a petty comeback and we're not buying it. As this is only a Plate Final, I dare you to try the same move on the Cup Final. Try waiting a long time before publishing. I guarantee you will get flamed, possibly worse than this.
Thank you and don't try and think of another comeback.”
This comment is with reference to the plate final between Jurong Junior College and Catholic Junior College.
So this guy (or girl) thinks I should be at the rugby plate final regardless of whatever else I may have to do on that day (for the record, I babysit my son every Friday afternoon, and the plate final was on a Friday afternoon). Even if I was not, and was at another sports event, jjcian thinks I owe it to the JJC rugby team to be there.
So what do you guys think?
to “loads of laughs”:
so what if u played and scored in the cup finals and thrashed jjc? plate finals is still rugby. are u in the national team for singapore? are you playing for singapore? even then, so what? you have got no right to criticise pple like that. you have got NO SPORTSMANSHIP at all! even those who played in the plate finals have a better attitude than you. you are not fit to play rugby cos u are not playing it and loving it in the right attitude.
Hi, Anybody knows when C Division Rugby will be played?
I suppose that by now JJCian is all black and blue after all the bashing.
Like they always say, if you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say it at all. Anyway, some mothers do have them.
why are we still arguing here? seriously, all this over JJCIAN? sighhh
Yes, this website does not cover all sports (eg tennis, gym) but that doesnt mean that this website sucks?
This website rules.
It is the lack of manpower that results in not all sports being covered! Don’t complain without first checking your facts and YOUR MIND. Geez please don’t be so self-centred. There are hundreds other sportsmen “neglected” but only you are complaining because the rest of them are sensible enough to understand Uncle Les’s difficulties
Loads of laughs, alias, a pack of lies, is definitely not an ACSI A div rugger.
We in ACSI, challenge you to task to declare your true identity and class.
No ACSian rugger (esp this A cohort ) would pass such demeaning remarks on another. They had such a cordial game with JJC in the prelim stage, that despite the capping rule at 80, both teams sportingly agreed to play on.
We respected the JJC’s ‘never give up’ attitude and they played their best despite the wide margin.
You couldn’t have been there.
My advice to you—-STOP dissing the plate teams and your indecorous behaviour
Mr kwok is right.
Without this site, most people would think that there are only 4 teams in rugby.
GO UNCLE LES! WE SUPPORT YOU ALWAYS.
ya shut up and grow up la jjcian. you just disgraced yourself and your whole school. if your so great go and set up a sports website yourself laa. what would your feelings be if some childish person like you post some stupid and insignificant comment like you just did?
GROW UP PLS. you already disgraced yourself enough to last your lifetime.
Hmmm … What more delusions can “loads of laughs” conjure?
I know the cup winners and the scorers and “loads of laughs” isn’t one of them. Henceforth liars and s— s——- will not be acknowledged.
UNCLE LES ALL THE WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After all that has been said, I think credit has to be given to schools (eg B & C Div) and Colleges who are not in the Top 4. One can easily conclude that you will probably (almost) see the same set of players playing (progressively) in the semi finals and the finals of various Divisions. Players from the Top 4 will probably stay in 1 or the other Top 4 schools (where rugby has a strong tradition) through the 6 years of secondary and post secondary education. We have to give admiration to Schools and Colleges who do not have the same tradition and resources (eg Support from Parents, ex students, Principals, Coaches and Teachers). Despite the difficulty in penetrating the Top 4 they show great sportsmanship by participating in the Competition. I believe most students and parents who do not have a good understanding of Rugby will not want to be involve in an “injury prone’ game. Besides ‘A’ Div players have only 2 years or 2 seasons to play. By the time new players master the game, they will already be busy preparing for the A levels. Despite all disadvantage to these Schools and Colleges, they manage to form a team every year to take part in the Competition. All Sports Enthusiast (especially Rugby Fans) should support them. Forget about all the animosity and support positivity. Otherwise in the near future, we may have to depend on Foreign Talent even for school sports.
i do agree with mr kwok, however.
and yes, they have something to play for, and take nothing away from the rugby teams from those in the plate who play their hearts out and are in the sport for the passion of it.
its comments from “dont argue laaaaaaaa” and jjcian’s demands that should be eradicated.
dont argue laaaaaaaa : who am i to say that? i played in the cup final. matter of fact, i SCORED in the cup final. so yeah, i do believe i can say that. PLUS, we thrashed JJC, 108-0? so who am i to say that? OH WAIT, i SCORED in that match too. so who are you to question who i am to say that? i piss people off? jjcian wanting so much attention to his PLATE final is pissing. so screw me? no, screw you.
This is getting out of hand. For all it’s worth, I feel that redsports has done a great job in covering the school sports scene, given their limited resources and manpower. It’s meant to be a reader-generated site and this has been communicated time and time again. With regard to the coverage of the rugby plate finals, if the respective colleges feel that they want their stories to be posted, then I am sure they could have a couple of their Reporters Club or Publications Club (or whatever they term this CCA) to post the photos and story on the website. Like it or not, the Top 4 rugby colleges will always have greater coverage simply because of the fan-base (ie, alumni, parents, ex-players, etc) and this is something that I have come to accept after coaching college rugby for almost 10 years. The other colleges simply do not have the kind of resources to mount a serious challenge for the Cup and due to this reason, there have been some colleges who have shut down rugby since their management feel that there’s no point taking part when their teams don’t even have a chance to break into the Top 4. Recognising this problem, the Plate competition was introduced in 2005 so that the other colleges would have something to play for. We have to realise that at least we are fortunate that we have a Plate competition to play in. For most other National School sports, there is no second tier competition. Their seasons end the moment the team fails to qualify for the second round or quarter-finals. So all the ruggers out there, do count your blessings. I do…since my rugby team was almost closed down in 2005 when my college management adopted the “Can’t win, don’t participate” attitude towards sports. However, I have persevered through and kept the sport alive in my college and I cherish every opportunity that my team gets to make the Plate competition semi-finals because I know that without the Plate competition, rugby would have been killed off in my college. To the team at redsports, thank you for posting reports on the Plate semi-finals this year. Even though people might have felt that the report on the Plate finals was late, at least there was a report! Keep up the good work, redsports!
come on. the fact that the Singapore Sports Council even have a plates final is already a good thing. In the Rugby World Cup, there’s not even a plate final! there’s only the CUP! if jjc think they can behave like superstars then they’re terribly wrong. believe me….true sportsmen dont need recognition. their mind is totally focused on something even greater….excelling in their sports.
so now we all know that jjc rugby plays rugby not for the sport but only to get recognition on an online website like this. they think they’re superstars hahahaha
screw u loads of laughs.. ur piss ppl off with comments like that too. u get it?
who are u to say that?
hahaha waste time . plate final shouldnt even have coverage cos the fact that its the PLATE final shows it isnt as good, get it? so dont compare this to the cup final because both teams in the plate final got thrashed by both teams in the cup final. i could give you the scores but its a lil extreme.
so jjcian, you want coverage? be up there at the top, its called MERITOCRACY. dont have substance, you dont get rewards. get it?
Thanks, someone, Cong, Zan, Old SA boy, Zhiwei, acs old boy, CCAB supporter, rugbymomX, Paul Kung, Winston, Rebecca, hans, Jabez, RW and Jessica.
Thanks, all.
