Said Chester Leow, a senior member of Catholic High, "We had difficulty coping with their size and strength. We also did not play particularly well. But all credit to the SAS team for their efforts."

Yet Catholic High started the game well, jumping to an early 13-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. However, the Singapore American School team, characterized by aggressive rebounding, crashed the boards in the second quarter. They had many second and third chance points to recapture the lead 34-23 by the end of the half.Catholic High's cause was not helped by poor blocking outs in the painted area and a few crucial turnovers in the quarter.

Despite centre Khaw Yeong Wooi's 31-point performance, Catholic High never looked like recapturing the lead in the second half. The team relied too much on his offence and his threat was minimized when the SAS team focused the team's defense on him alone.SAS passed their way out of their opponent's full court zone defence on numerous occasions to score easy baskets and maintain a 10-point cushion. They also combined good inside and outside scoring to confound their opponents.

What was even more amazing was that the team had only been training together for a month. Singapore American School teacher-in-charge William Norris credits it to his coach. "He has done a tremendous job preparing the team for the basketball season."
