Catholic High School vs Anglican High School

When two Zone champions meet, sparks definitely fly. That was what happened at the Singapore Basketball Centre yesterday when Catholic High met Anglican High to determine who would top the group.

The first quarter was a tight affair. The Anglican High School boys team edged in front 16-14 after the first quarter. Both teams played tight defence on each other and relied on fast breaks to get most of their points. However, due to the height advantage of the Catholic High team, Anglican High resorted to outside shooting. Sherwin Yen (#8) from Anglican High was spot on from the 3-point line in the first quarter.
The second quarter failed to separate the teams with both scoring 11 points each. Anglican High took a two-point 27-25 lead into the half-time break.

The third quarter proved crucial for Anglican High. Despite turnovers from both teams, Anglican High failed to capitalise on their lay-ups and free throws. They eventually managed only two points in the quarter. Captain Jabez Su (#4) of Catholic High turned up the heat, scoring four consecutive baskets to power his team to a 35-29 lead at the end of the third.
The fourth quarter was a long and see-saw battle between the two teams. Catholic High seemed to have the advantage midway through the fourth quarter when they opened up an eight-point gap to lead 43-35. But someone forgot to mention that to point guard Chee Khan Liang (#7) of the Anglican High team. He connected from the 3-point line to close the gap to 43-38.
Catholic High then made a tactical change. They began to spread out over the court, directing their passes to centre Goh Kong Tat (#15). Point guard Dominic Lim (#10) and Jabez Su also made some crucial cuts into the basket to gain points for their team.
Not to be outdone, Sherwin Yen and Choi Chi Min (#13) of Anglican High both scored 3-pointers to close the gap to 50-54. But time eventually ran out and Catholic High emerged the 54-50 victor.
They will next face West Zone champions Jurong in the semifinal to be played on Wed 22 August at the Singapore Basketball Centre at 3.30pm. North Zone champions Presbyterian High will face Anglican High in the other semifinal. It promises to be a tight affair with any of the four teams capable of winning the C Division title.
