East Zone powerhouse Anglican High triumphed 50-37 over North Vista in a highly-anticipated Group D first round match played last Tuesday at the Singapore Basketball Centre. With the win, they topped the group while North Vista came in runners-up. The win was significant because it gave Anglican High a more favourable draw in the second round.

North Vista came out firing in the first half, with key player Larry (#11) connecting from 3-point range. They led 24-13 by the end of the first half.

Although Anglican High struggled for much of the first half, they came out refreshed and fighting in the 3rd quarter. Within 5 minutes, they closed the 11-point deficit to 24-27 as the North Vista players struggled to add to their score.

A crucial moment came when North Vista’s key player Larry was adjudged to have committed his 4th foul with 2:30 left on the clock. He promptly took his place on the bench.

Anglican High finally took the lead with 1:30 left at 28-27. North Vista showed they were not prepared to give up without a fight however when they came back to tie the game 29-29 at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter saw a visibly tiring North Vista team surrendering the game to rampant attacks by the East Zone champions. Particularly impressive for the Anglican High team was Sherwin (#8). He executed numerous fast breaks and jump shots to help his team extend the lead. Anglican High eventually scored 21 points in the final quarter to win the game 50-37.

In the other group D match, Queensway beat Kranji 47-44 to clinch third place in the group.
