National ‘C’ Division Championship 2007

The first round of National ‘C’ Division Championship is drawing to a close and the picture for the quarterfinal stage is getting clearer. In the Boys Championship, Catholic High have secured top spot in Group A with an unbeaten 3-0 record, outscoring all three National group opponents by an average of 34 points per game. Since the start of their season, Catholic High have won 12 straight games. Barring a catastrophic collapse, Catholic High will feature in the Championship Final to defend their title, confirming their rise as a prominent basketball school. Deyi qualified for the quarterfinals as Group A runners-up.

In Group B, traditional powerhouse Jurong have a stranglehold on top spot and should go into the quarterfinals as Group winners. Raffles Institution’s season now hangs by a thread after their surprising one-point loss to East Spring, and will now need to beat Jurong and hope Maris Stella can do the same to East Spring. If East Spring hold their nerve and beat Maris Stella, they will qualify at RI’s expense.

In Group C, Presbyterian High have a 2-0 record to top the group, leaving Peirce and Unity, both of whom have 1-1 records, to fight it out for second spot. Unity’s final group game is against leaders Presbyterian High which they must win to qualify for the quarterfinals. In Group D, Anglican High and North Vista have perfect 2-0 records and they will meet in a top-of-the-table clash to determine who the Group winner is.

In the Girls’ Championship, Jurong West made a lot of people sit up and notice when they beat traditional powerhouse Raffles Girls’ 39-30. Jurong West have a perfect 3-0 record to go top of the group and qualify together with RGS for the quarterfinals. Defending champions Anglican High sit top of Group B, leaving favourites Nanyang Girls’ to fend off the challenge of Cedar Girls’ for the second qualifying spot. The girls of Dunman are top of Group C with a 2-0 record. Jurong and Zhong Hua, who both have 1-1 records, will meet in a final group game to determine who qualifies for the quarterfinals in second spot. In Group D, Chung Cheng High (Main) are group leaders and have qualified for the quarterfinals with a perfect 3-0 record. While the remaining three teams in the group – Unity, Yishun Town, New Town – all have equal 1-1 records, Unity are expected to qualify as Group runners-up.
