National ‘A’ Division
Raffles Junior College vs Victoria Junior College

Story and pictures by Red Sports reader Ms Tan Huey Ying, a student-photographer from Victoria Junior College. Thanks, Huey Ying!

The CCAB pitch was not well-maintained and was patched with sand, mud and some grass. Some players fell when dribbling in muddy patches, many had grazed knees and elbows, and no one had a clean jersey. Both teams played hard, but the VJ boys deserve the extra commendation, given that they were coach-less in a way because Mr Tan Yew Hwee, VJ’s soccer coach, was not present at the match.

The first goal was scored by VJC in the second half but RJ secured the equaliser soon after. During extra time, both teams came onto the pitch with renewed vigour but no one was able to close up the match by scoring the golden goal.

Penalties followed and VJ lost 6-7. The VJ boys were heartbroken and so were the VJ supporters, many of whom cried along with the soccer boys. Commendably, RJC supporters held their cheers till after the Victorian anthem was sung. RJ and VJ supporters were respectful during the penalties with maintained silence before and during each penalty kick. However, a group of MI students were present amongst the VJC supporters and
their conduct was anything but acceptable.

VJC did not deserve to lose but neither did RJC. It all boiled down to luck during the penalties.
Congrats to RJ.
N.B.: Raffles Junior College and Meridian Junior College will now meet in the Championship Final next Thursday, 24 May 2007, 4:30 pm, at the National Stadium. The 3rd/4th placing game between Victoria Junior College and St Andrew’s Junior College will start at 3 pm at the same venue.
Editor’s note: If you recognise yourself or your teammates, let us know your names. We’ll update the captions. Thanks.
For all those who werent there, the pitch
indUced a poor style of play for both teams
for vjC players, it must have been heartbreak
One cracK at goal was all RJC needed to
send them packing, kudos to them tho
they tried hard and we will always be behind them
Frankly i think that both teams hava a good game
Understandably is VJC upset about RJC style….quite ruff….
Clearly RJC din haf a gud game like their opponents but kudoes to both
Keeper of vjc have gud game, dam soliid but… yaya papaya
Until thursday… we shall see… i hope MJC have a abetter game this time,
vj outfought outplayed rj
rj were despicable in their blatant fouls on the vj dangermen with their numerous yellow cards to show for it
luck was the only thing rj had and have with 1 goal from 1 chance the whole game
i worry for them in the final because with a better and bigger field they will not be able to be up to their tricks as the ball will be on the ground more and there will be more space between the players
they were lucky
and they know it
whoever won deseved to win…so let’s not be sore bout it all. yea..i agree tt vj’s soccer team is strong but i guess this game is about luck too at times.. Not saying tt the rj team is weak..they’re gd this year,n they got loads to be proud of. So there…
maybe the boys needed a break, a well needed break from trying to deliver-year in,year out, so there’s a new flavour to the final… anyway both played well and the pitch really sucks. considering the fact that this severely restricted their play, I think they may have to adapt equally well to the pitch at the national stadium which’s equally like sludge
LOOK AT THE BADGE THEY WORE. CLEARLY NOT MJ . THE UNIFORM THEY WORE. LOOK AT IT. ITS HAS A GREENISH AND BLUEISH TONE. CLEARLY NOT MJ. LOOK AT ALL THE MJ FANS WAITING AT THE SIDE OF THE TRACK. THEY ARE NOT ONE OF US. SORRY. IM JUST ANGRY THAT THE VJ TEACHER ACTUALLY SCOLDED THOSE PPL AND ENDING HIS SENTENCE, YOU UNDERSTAND MJC. I REALLY THINK HE SHOULD GET HIS FACTs RIGHT BEFORE HE START SCOLDING. ANYWAY, THIS IS A MATCH SITUATION. YOU DONT SEE MOURINHO SCOLDING THE FANS THAT SHOUTED AND INTIMIDATE CECH WHILE HE IS PREPARING TO SAVE A PENALTY SHOT. SOMETIMES, THIS HORRIBLE THING HAPPENS. IT IS THE NATURE OF THE SPORT. PLS. ITS SOCCER. LIKE IT OR NOT, THIS HORRIBLE THINGS HAPPND.
sorry del pIERO, huey ying knows NUTS about soccer. =) if you could, maybe you could post a more detailed game report? as you can see, she said nothing abt the technical aspects of the game.
not being biased here.
but everyone witnessed at least 3 handballs and some tugging of shirts by rj players…all of which were somehow overlooked…
first pic vjc player = justin
second pic= hazreen
third: roland
and excuse me, theres no such thing as ‘vj deserved to lose just cause the keeper danced’ because raffles players taunted vj players as well on the field, so please look at both sides of the equation cause i believe that generally, rj aint all that upright either.
vj wanted to win as well, so stop being evil.
and vj doesnt play physical styles, so stop copying us and shaving bald.
VJC ROCKS!
GO VEEJAY!
=D
If you feel what the writer says is biased, please, feel free to send in your own story. I’ll post it.
I will post anything as long as it is about the game and not personal insulting comments about each other, ok?
So del piero, your comment is fair comment.
names of the rj players in the pictures:
first picture with the caption ‘A VJC player (in yellow) tussles for the ball with an RJ player’ – mohd hashir (tussling), junliang (no. 2 ) looking on.
second picture with the caption ‘Another tussle for the ball between a VJC and RJC player’ – bing li
third picture with the caption ‘”Er…where did the ball go?” An RJC player loses the ball but a VJC player on the ground can only look on.’ – looks like bing li again, but i’m not sure.
fourth picture with the caption ‘The RJC keeper can do nothing about this penalty as it flies past him’ – rjc keeper is timon.
mind showing the line – up next time ?
i want to know who played and who didnt play.
The bench players too please ?
Thank you =)
I think VJC deserved to lose especially during the penalties. Look at how cocky the VJC keeper is. He even danced when the RJC player missed a penalty and its not as if he saved it.
Due to the poor field condition, i feel that rjc couldnt play their normal passing game but credit to them for changing their style of play to adapt to the field. It was really a good fight between both sides and both teams took their chances when it was created. Both teams defended well. Vjc’s style of physical play was evident right from the first whistle and it was a real battle out there. The sportsmanship of the game tho was a high point in the game with both fans and players respecting each other.
It’ll be a great final to come and watch especially when it is the last one to be held at the old National Stadium. Congrats to the whole RJC team again.
But then again uncle les, the account is very bias. Its not fair to the rj team who have been very discipline at the back. They have showed us that they are a team with big hunger. Look at the way how they tore vj apart when they were trailing by a goal. KUDOS TO THEM IN THE FINAL.
hi there…if i am not wrong, the students whom you said whose conduct was anything but acceptable couldnt have been from MI because MI was having its GP MID YEAR EXAM AND SPORTS DAY ON THAT DAY…i’m sure they are MJC students..so ya..maybe we should get our facts right:)
does anyone know when the 3rd/4th placing will be and where is it held at?
does anyone know when the 3rd/4th placing will be?
and where is it held at?
I think it’s very classy of Huey Ying of VJ to congratulate RJ in her story despite the pain of losing.
You got style, girl!
