Catholic High eased past Ngee Ann Secondary 65-45 in a School National ‘B’ Division game yesterday at the Clementi Sports Complex.

Unlike the earlier match between Nanyang and SCGS, the match between Catholic High and Ngee Ann Sec was much less significant in terms of the result as Catholic High had already topped their group. Ngee Ann Sec’s hopes of qualification were already slim due to their earlier loss to Seng Kang Sec.

The only stir of the match came when Ngee Ann Sec’s No 11, Ang Wei Xuan, their centre and easily the most influential player on the team, fell awkwardly in the second quarter. It seemed that he had played his final part in the game as he was carried out by his teammates. However, he made a quick recovery to return in the third quarter to score 9 points for his team before fouling out. Kenneth Tan (No 13) of Ngee Ann also made some good plays, scoring 7 points off fast break opportunities and sharpshooter No 5, Leonard of Ngee Ann led the team in shooting prowess with four 3-pointers.

Catholic High’s scoring was balanced, led by Chong Ming Xuan (No 14) with 18 points and Shawn Lim (No 9) with 12 points as the only two players with double figures. They eventually won 65-45. Seng Kang Sec beat Bukit Panjang Govt High in the other match to qualify for the next round as well.
