The boys faced Montfort Secondary for their first match in the second round of the Championships and were looking to extend their winning streak before facing ACS(I) on Wednesday, 28 March 2007.

Once again, Catholic High were slow to warm up to the game and failed to take their chances at bat in the first inning. The game was tied at 0-0 until the Montfort fielders committed an error which resulted in 3 runs for the boys. From then on, it was a matter of capitalizing on each other’s mistakes. Catholic High were lucky as Monfort were slow to react to several uncharacteristic errors. As a result, the third inning ended with a 4-1 scoreline in favour to Catholic High.

Both sides drew flak from their respective coaches for the appalling plays and there was a marked improvement in the next inning. The players were finally watching the coach’s signals and listening to instructions. Catholic High emerged as the better team for the next 2 innings, wrapping up the game with an emphatic 9-3 win.

Coach Ronghan said, "The errors made by the boys were simply horrendous. Such performances are totally unacceptable given the amount of time they had spent in training. However, Monfort’s failure to take the lead while we were down cost them the game."

Looks like the boys will have to learn from their mistakes if they were to do well in the subsequent games.
