Clementi Sports Hall, Wednesday, March 28, 2012 — Yishun Secondary held off a late surge from Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) to win 60-49 in Round 1 of the National B Division Basketball Championship.
The win gave new hope for Yishun after they lost their opening national championship game 45-51 to Anglican High. Yishun, who finished third in the North Zone, have a final game against group leaders New Town Secondary who have a perfect 2-0 win-loss record.
For ACS (Barker), the South Zone champions, the loss was their second in a row and they are out of the running for a spot in the next round. They lost their first game 42-51 to New Town.
The second quarter proved decisive for ACS (Barker). They were outscored 17-7 to trail 13-25 at half time. ACS (Barker) matched Yishun point for point in the third quarter and Yishun led by 12 heading into the fourth.
ACS (Barker) had a late surge in the fourth quarter and cut down the deficit to a single digit at times but Yishun were always able to stay comfortably ahead to wrap up the win.
