Clementi Sports Hall, Wednesday, April 5, 2017 —– Nanyang Girls’ High School ended their unsuccessful defence of their National B Division Girls Basketball Championship title with a 44-33 win over Dunman Secondary (DS) School in Round 2.

Led by point guard Li Si Lin (NYGH #21) with a game high of 15 points, the Nanyang Girls’ were comfortable winners, leading from start to finish. The result was only good enough to place them third in group X, with Dunman fourth.

“Although we made some mistakes here and there, each one of us still managed to cover up for each other to pull through,” said Nanyang’s Si Lin (NYGH #21). “We should train harder for our defence and it is the key to our offence. Once we get our defence well, we’ll be able to get the ball and attack.”

As soon as the ball was tipped, both teams played slow and unsuccessfully attempted three-pointers whenever left open. Si Lin converted two two-pointers and three-pointers each to launch Nanyang into an early lead, going into half time up 26-12.

Dunman outscored their rivals 13-9 in the third quarter, helped by Nanyang’s poor outside shooting. Still, the defending champions snuffed out any hopes of a comeback, finishing the game strongly.
