Clementi Sports Hall, Friday, March 24, 2017 — Presbyterian High (PH) dominated Jurong Secondary (JS) on both the defensive and offensive end to secure the 86-40 victory in the National B Division Basketball Championship.

With this win, Presbyterian High have a flawless win-loss record of 3-0. They top Group D and will advance to play against Dunman High, Jurong West Secondary and Christ Church Secondary in Round 2.

On the other hand, this loss marks the end of the season for Jurong. They lost both their previous matches against Dunman Secondary and Fairfield Methodist School.

Once the ball was tipped, Presbyterian High got to work. With a few quick passes, Jaron Ng (PH #15) got open for a quick two.

After that made shot, Presbyterian High wasted no time in setting up their full court press. This led to a turnover by Jurong. Presbyterian High converted that into points as they sank a three-point shot to lead by five.

Seeing success in their full court press defense, Presbyterian High continued with that to rack up countless turnovers off Jurong and converted all those into fast-break points.

When Jurong managed to break the full court press, they did not capitalize on their opportunity to score. Their lack of scoring coupled with Presbyterian High’s consistent fast-break saw the deficit widen.

Presbyterian High were up 21-9 after the first quarter.

After the first half, Presbyterian High went with their second unit for the rest of the game. The second unit stepped up and performed for Presbyterian High.

Constantin Lim (PH #13) led the game with game-high 20 points to put Presbyterian High in front with a comfortable lead.

Ivan Kau (PH #4) of Presbyterian High, the smallest on the court, played the biggest in the game. Despite his small build, he was crafty with his handles and was able to weave through Jurong’s defense to set up his teammates for open shots.

Presbyterian High led 67-22 after the first three quarters.

In the fourth, Jurong got into a groove and made many of their open shots. Soh Zhen Yu (JS #17) contributed eight fourth-quarter points. He had a team-high 13 points.

Despite that, Jurong could not find a solution for Presbyterian High’s plays. While they were able to score, they could not stop Presbyterian High’s offense.

Presbyterian High went on to take down Jurong 86-40.

Captain Dillion Yap (PH #7) of Presbyterian High said, “Our second unit’s ball movement was very smooth. They were not selfish and they shared the ball well. The overall team defense was good as well.”

When asked about his performance, Ivan Kau (PH #4) said, “I was a little scared but it was a challenge for me. I feel that I’ll improve playing against them and just tried to play my best. It was one of my best performance of the season. In my mind, I just wanted to share the ball more and let the entire team play as one.”
